Andrea Petersen, MPH

Ms. Petersen is a grant program associate contributing to the At-Risk Populations and the Promising Practices projects at CIDRAP. She received her MPH from the University of Minnesota in epidemiology with a focus on infectious disease and global health issues. Her master's work focused on determining the impact of well installation on waterborne disease rates in rural Tanzanian villages. Her professional background includes working on the Pandemic Influenza Planning Team at Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health. While collectively this team developed its department's internal emergency response plan, Ms. Petersen's focus was to identify community needs, foster community action to prepare for emergencies, and assist community groups to develop their response plans. She focused her outreach efforts on organizations that support vulnerable populations, anticipating their ability to assist local public health's response endeavors during an emergency. At CIDRAP, Ms. Petersen works to further enhance community preparedness initiatives that target at-risk populations.
